Startup of the Week: Prevention Now

Founded in 2020 by Kristen Harris and Mark Clookie, Prevention Now aims to stop human trafficking before it ever starts. They do this by first leveraging artificial intelligence and data analytics to identify root causes of human trafficking in a certain area, which they then use to collaborate with federal, state, and local partners to solve those issues before they lead to further trafficking. Prevention Now's founders have extensive experience related to human trafficking– Harris spent eight years at the FBI and three years at International Justice Mission (IJM), and Clookie spent 37 years in law enforcement, including the US Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and ten years at IJM. Prevention Now has achieved strong traction so far, having partnered with Covenant House Alaska, Epik Project, Oregon's Department of Justice, and other organizations. They are also part of Praxis' competitive 2023 Nonprofit Accelerator.
